Dress Code as set forth by the Jackson County Board of Education

Attire at the Jackson County High School should reflect the main goal and focus of our school, EDUCATION. All clothing should be safe, clean, and decent. Here are some guidelines, but final decisions will be made by the administration.

1. The abdomen, back, cleavage, or underwear should not show.

2. Shoes should be appropriate for indoor or outdoor wear as required per teacher.

3. No clothing or belongings should display directly or represent: drugs, alcohol, sex, violence or vulgar or inflammatory language.

4. Skirts and shorts must touch the kneecap while standing. No holes in jeans above the knee. (No patches)

5. Clothing is not to be excessively baggy nor should the inseam drag the floor and there is to be no dangling chains for the safety of students and others.

6. No head coverings (hats, toboggans, do rags), sweatbands, or bandanas of any kind.

7. No trench coats or rain slickers

1st offense - Detention from the teacher who witnesses it, must change clothing and the parents are notified

2nd offense - ISS all day, must change clothing, notify parents

3rd offense - 3 days ALC and notify parents

Principals, assistant principals, and all faculty will be responsible for determining dress code violations. Common sense and good judement should be used in a fair and impartial manner. When extenuating circumstances exist, modifications should be made (i.e. sunglasses worn while being treated for an eye infection). Teachers should check for dress code violations each block, especially first block, as part of regular "housekeeping chores".

Grading and Reporting

Students will receive grade reports each nine weeks and at the end of each term. A progress report will be assigned to each studnet at the end of the 4 & 1/2 week of each nine week grading period. These reports should be reviewed by the studnet and then taken home for parental review. If you have any questions concerning grades, please contact the teacher. Grades are recorded in numerical form. A student passes a class if the average of the two grades is equal to 70.

Sign - out Policy

ANY STUDENT including students 18 years of age or older, seeking early dismissal from school shall deliver a note to the principal or assistant principal upon the student's arrival at school. The note will have the parent or guardian's signature, time of departure, reason for dismissal, the person responsible for the student's transport (self, specified family member, etc.), and a phone number where the parent or guardian may be reached to verify the note. Before leaving campus, the student must sign out. No student shall be allowed to leave the campus for lunch. "There will be no phone calls accepted for the student to sign out unless there is an emergency. Parents must speak to the Principal or Assistant Principal before students will be allowed to sign out by phone."

Failure to follow the policy will result in the following disciplinary measures:

1st offense - 1 day ISS (if the student returns to the campus the same day) and warning about losing driving privileges
2nd offense - 3 days of ALC and loss of driving privileges for 10 days.
3rd offense - 10 days ALC and loss of driving privileges for 9 weeks.

Attendance Policy

All studnets at Jackson Count High School are expected to attend all classes for which they are scheduled.

1. Any student absent from class should report to the office between 7:00 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. where they will obtain an admit slip either excused or unexcused

2. Any student absent from any class must present that teacher with an admit slip, obtained at the office, before being admitted to the class upon their return to school

3. A maximum of 5 school days will be allowed for a student to bring proper notification for an excused absence, such as but not limited to a doctor or dentist note, funeral notice, court appearance, personal note, etc...

4. A studnet shall receive 100% credit for all makup work related to an excused absence. A student shall receive a 0 (zero) for all work missed due to an unexcused absence. This 0 (zero) may be changed to 100% credit if that student chooses to do time for time. Students may do time for time for excused absences to maintain test exemption status. Any student may choose to do time for time for any unexcused absence.

5. All students will receive a daily class grade based on the student's full participation in all class work. This grade will include the student coming to class on time and fully prepared, which includes bringing all books and materials needed for that class. This will count 10% for eah nine week grading period. Participation grade will apply to both excused and unexcused absenses. Students may do time for time to make up any absenses for participation grade. The grade will be determined by dividing the number of days per semester into 100.

6. Upon the 5th absence from a class that teacher should notify that student's parent or guardian

7. Upon the 7th unexcused absence that student will be referred to the Truancy Board

8. Students and parents will be required to meet with the Truancy Board

9. If student or parents fail to attend the scheduled meeting of the Truancy Board, the student will be cited to Juvenile Court.

10. The Truancy Board will determine if mitigating circumstances should cause absences to be excused.

11. If the Truancy Board finds no mitigating circumstances, the student will be informed that upon the 10th unexcused absence that student will be cited to Juvenile Court.

12. Upon the 10th unexcused absence, the Attendance Teacher will cite the student to Juvenile Court.

13. Students must be in the class 80 minutes in order to be counted present. Channel One TV time is co included in this 80 minutes.

14. Any student receiving 12 absences per semester (no more than 8 absences can be excused) in a class will automatically receive a failing grade for the 18 week period in that class unless the student makes up the time missed inTime for Time. The grade will be 69 or less, depending on the grade in class. In case of exentuating circumstances the student may appeal to a committee composed of the principal, counselor, attendance teacher and others.

Electronic Devices

Students shall not possess personal communication devices, such as pagers or cell phones, while on school property, unless the student has a permit and is on active duty as a member of the volunteer fire fighting organization or a volunteer emergency medical service organization. In order to obtain a permit, the minor must have secured a signed consent from one of his/her parents or legal guardian. A "personal communication Device" is a device that emits and audible signal, vibrates, displays a message, or otherwise summons or delivers a communicaiton to the possessor. A person who discovers a student in possession of a personal communication device shall report the violation to the principal. The device will be confiscated and forfeited to the district. Students who posses a personal communication device are in violation of the policy and school rules and are subject to the related disciplinary action.

Unauthorized usage of electronic devices including but not limited to cell phones, IPOD, MP3, cameras, and CD players are not allowed. School not responsible for stolen/ broken items.

1st offense - Detention from the teacher who witnesses it, take the device, and parent must pick it up.
2nd offense - Device is taken for 5 school days and parent must pick up device
3rd offense - 3 days ALC, take device and any further offenses results in confiscation of device and holding until the last day of school.
